The Historic Preservation Commission met on January 25th. Here are the highlights of what was discussed: - 1-2 members of the commission expressed interest in attending the Real Places 2023 Conference in February. This conference is presented by the Texas Historical Commission and focuses on ways cities can preserve their history. Staff will check on the available budget to know how many members can attend.
- A member of the Rotary Club presented Rotary's idea to pay for and install historical markers throughout Hutto. The HPC asked for the Rotary club to provide a list of proposed locations for feedback and discussion in an upcoming HPC meeting.
- Discussion was made surrounding the old rail depot that the Hutto ISD has offered to give to the City. The HPC is interested in preserving this building and asked staff to work with the ISD staff to put a proposal together on how this might be done. Staff suggested a future joint meeting with the Parks Board to discuss possible locations of a permanent location for the depot.
- A report was made from the history writing committee. They continue to make progress on the written history of Hutto and their research. Several chapters are mostly complete and the entire HPC will review the chapters and provide feedback. HPC members also asked staff to look into what it would take to hire a grant writer for the city to access the many state and federal grants available for historic preservation.

Where is the Real Places conference? Is it multiple days? Single day? Cost to attend?

Sorry Dan, I didn't know you responded with that question. I am going to ping staff to see if there is a way for us to be notified when someone comments on a thread.
To answer your question, it was held over three days (Feb 1-3) in Austin. We had one person from HPC attend several sessions, all virtually. I don't know the cost for them to attend, but staff confirmed the cost was below the budgeted funds for training prior to their signing-up.
