All,
I like that city staff is now putting a Fiscal section on agenda items but I would like to request a small tweak to that information. In Item 10.1 for example it states the FM1660 fund has 4,583,040 remaining in budget and proposed expenditure of 2,830,068 but I would like to see it also stated how much above or below the planned budget that expenditure is from the plan. I.E. are we coming under budget or over budget as that allows a quicker drill down in seeing how well staff and council have managed a project and ensure we are not going to be under-funded and unable to move forward due to cost overruns as we near the end of a project. We have all seen from other large capital projects undertaken by other governmental agencies such as schools, TXDOT, and other city projects in the past that projects can balloon from original plans do to scope creep, cost increases, etc and I want to have an easy way for citizens to see a high level view right from the agenda.

A perfect example of this is Item 10.2 where the actual bid is coming in almost 200K over estimates but the budget was set to support that higher number due to inflation construction costs but I want to ensure that this is the final cost and we will be able to show to the citizens that in-fact the city will be under budget by 37K.

CC Clark, how do we know that the number is coming in higher due to inflation? We JUST set the budget 3 months ago and construction costs have gone DOWN since then. I think that this is more of a case of a WAG or SWAG on the cost estimate.
I also agree with your issue about 1660. I know that money has been spent. So, how much has been spent to date? Also, completely agree on why we need these numbers.
This ALL should be VERY EASY to get. Bid estimates are not difficult and should be fairly accurate. With the environment that we have going on, I would expect things to be coming in under budget.

Also, looking over the paperwork from HNTB, they state "We attribute the higher than expected prices due to the small quantities of work related to roadway construction and unique storm drain system adjustments required by the project." That is a little confusing to me as HNTB designed the project. So, did they design it wrong? or bid it wrong? And, once they have that many changes, maybe they could have given Hutto a heads up?
