There was a concern brought up last night about speeding in old town and looking at adjusting speed limits.
Maybe we should have the Stalker SAM-R set up in Old Town to track real time info like: 1) actual speed, 2) amount of traffic and so on.
Then, we may find out that the problem is worse than we thought, or, that the speed of cars is lower than we thought.
We just got back (2) reports where the avg speed was 20.76 in a 30mph area and the other area had a avg speed of 32.47.
Both area had 3.66% and 3.53% of drivers who exceeded 40 mph.
Great info to me.

I agree that having the speed trailer put in areas of concern would give us the data to know if we really have a problem. It would be great to have that data prior to having this on the agenda to allow us to discuss more effectively.
I still have reservations about having different speed limits for residential areas within the city limits. I recall the police department said that is unusual and could cause confusion if the limit isn't consistent across town. I would like more data from the PD on any adverse effects of having differing speed limits in residential.

Good points. I see people drive down my street and honestly, it all looks fast. But, I don't really know how fast they were going.
Peter, can you remember why we didn't change the speed earlier? I was thinking that we had to do traffic studies to determine if we could lower speed limits.

No, you are incorrect Mayor. It wasn't a concern about speeding. My concern is to just lower the speed limit for public safety in this area in general. It always has been.

Ok, now I'm confused. There is no issue on speeding? We just want lower overall car speeds? I think that I can go out on a limb and say that not only do I support Old Town speed limits dropping to say 20 mph, but I would say that most people in Hutto would like to see their neighborhood speed limit lowered as well. We have many narrow streets in our older subdivisions. With all of the people parking on the street, 30 mph seems awfully fast. So, maybe the discussion to be for the city "as a whole" that residential speed limits need to be looked at.
I also think that it would be good to see the amount of traffic on our old town streets and the speed checker will not only register speeds of cars, but how many come by. Are we talking about streets with 10 cars a day going through or 1,000 cars a day going through? Lakeside Estates has some streets in the neighborhood that look like a collector street instead of a residential street with all of the traffic on them.
